Asking how much a website will cost is like asking how much a car will cost – the answer is ‘it depends on what you need and what your budget is’.
The first step is to look round this page and get an idea of what’s on offer. Below you’ll find details of what’s included with every website, and on the right are some examples of typical website packages.
Lower down the page is a menu of prices for other optional items that you may also want to include, so you can see from the beginning the sort of costs involved.
Once you have an idea of what you might want, the best thing to do is to complete a Comprehensive Website Design Questionnaire (or this version if you are only after a 1-page site) and then we can discuss your requirements in more detail.
So, to start off…
With every website you get:
- 3 draft design options based on your preferences, 1 of which is then developed into your unique final design
- An easy to follow guide to help you know what sort of information to include in your chosen pages
- Revising and checking all your text to ensure it is accurate and effective copy for both your visitors and the all important Search Engines
- Up to 5 images per page
- Inclusion of your logo (if you have one)
- Optimisation for all major modern browsers
- Submission to major Search Engines
- Favicon (the little image that goes in the browser bar that helps identify your site when it has been bookmarked)
And…
- Free .co.uk or .com domain name for the first year (£10 a year for a .co.uk or £13 a year for a .com thereafter)
- Up to 5 e-mail addresses at your domain name

Once you have completed and submitted the questionnaire, then a more detailed quote can be given. In the meantime, you can also look at the ‘add-on extras’ price list for additional elements such as video, audio, custom forms, blog, slideshows, etc., to give you an idea of the costs for some of the commonly requested additional features.
‘Add-on extras’ – other elements you may want included in your website
The following list gives an idea of the cost of the most commonly requested ‘add-ons’ to a website
- Basic slideshow – with images/ words fading in and out (see the homepage of this site for an example) – £60 for up to 20 slides
- More complex slideshow – as above but with a more complex design, more fancy transitions etc – starting at £90 for up to 20 slides
- Additional pages – each with up to 1000 words and 5 images – £60
- Audio – £30 for including up to 3 tracks
- Video – £30 for including up to 3 videos
- Basic photo/image gallery – £60 for up to 30 images
- Sign up box – for your newsletter/ mailing list – £20
More add-on extras
- Sign-up ‘incentive’ – i.e. the creation of a free product that your visitors can download in return for signing up at your website – it could be a report you provide based on an area of your expertise, a tip sheet, a free guide to some area of your chosen market, anything that is likely to add value to the life of a visitor to your site who may not be ready to turn into a paying customer quite yet. This is the most basic requirement to start increasing your mailing list – from £30 (depending on how much you would like me to help you with this)
- Social media links – facebook, twitter, etc – £15
- Sourcing and editing images – if you don’t have any suitable images to use on your website, they can be supplied and edited for you – £10 per image
- Key word research – Identifying the correct keywords to help your site rank well in the Search Engines like Google for specific search terms – starting at £90 (depending on the complexity of your requirements)
- Customised form – for example, where a customer fills in their specific requirements so that you can give them a quotation – starting at £60 price depending on the complexity of the form
- Blog – £60 (NB If you add a blog to your website, the hosting and maintenance will be an additional £4 a month to cover anti-spam protection, regular software updates and more frequent backups to keep your content safe)
- Are you legal? – If your website needs a Privacy Policy, Terms and Conditions or a Disclaimer, these can be added for £20 each. The templates will be supplied by Website Law, and then be personalised and added to your website (covers England and Wales only). Please note, these templates contain a link back to the Website Law website – if you would prefer not to have this link your policies will then be £40 each
- Copywriting – If you would like to have your website copy written for you, this will be £45 per hour
- Want to make changes to your website yourself? – Having a Content Management System allows you to add, edit or delete the content and pages on your website – giving you complete control. The additional cost covers setting up the service, and unlimited access to a range of ‘how to’ video tutorials explaining how to add, edit and delete content on your website – £120 (or only £60 if you are already adding blog to your site (see above).
- More complex requirements – if you would like original and bespoke artwork, password protected areas on your site, membership forums, advanced SEO, on-line marketing, etc., please include these requirements in your Website Requirements Questionnaire and we can discuss your needs
What may add further to the cost of your website
- Graphic design work – The graphic design is usually the single most time consuming part of developing a website, with a lot of drafts, discussions, alterations and final acceptance. If your site requires lots of original and bespoke art and design work, whilst this will make you and your website appear even more out-of the ordinary, it will of course attract a premium in terms of price
- Unusable images – Some people are surprised to find that they can’t just take images from a Google search and use them on their own website (not realising they are most likely in breach of copyright), or that their low resolution phone camera pictures from a holiday 3 years ago are not high enough quality for a professional website! We live in a highly visual world, and high quality images are a must for a website – poor quality images will scream ‘unprofessional’ from your pages long before a visitor will stop to read any of the words. If you can’t supply good quality images yourself, that’s easily solved – stock images can be supplied and edited at very reasonable prices, or custom photography can be arranged which will cost more
- Changing your mind – If all or part of your website is developed as agreed, and you subsequently change your mind about what you need, the work that has been done will still have to be paid for. Similarly, if you want extra functionality, there will be additional costs. This makes it very important that you carefully specify your requirements from the outset. If you need help with this, additional consultancy can be arranged
What to do next…
Now you’ve got a good idea of what’s available and for what sort of budget, the next step is to complete and send a Comprehensive Website Design Questionnaire (or this version if you are only looking for a 1-page site) and then we can discuss your requirements in more detail.
